Bridesmaid Boot Camp – Part I of III

Dear Bride,
The man of your dreams has popped the question, you said yes. After celebrating, it is time to start setting your plans into motion. An important part is choosing which special women will share the experience with you. These women have a special place in your heart, so to keep the friendships lasting long after the church bells ring, here are a few helpful hints to make sure stress levels stay low and words stay kind.
1. Give them time. Tell your bridesmaids you want them to share in your special day well in advance. The more time they have to plan for the festivities, the better. There are many bridesmaid responsibilities; emotionally and financially, so make sure that each one of your bridesmaids is up for it!
2. Inform them. In writing, explain your expectations of your bridesmaids, with an additional list for your maid-of-honor. Make sure the list is thorough and detailed. Include what you expect them to pay for and what you will be paying for. If they know in advance, they can start to save. Let them know what events they are expected at: the bridal shower, the bachelorette party, spa/hair appointments, the rehearsal dinner. If you have out-of-town bridesmaids, make your expectations clear, but try to remain flexible.
3. Talk it out. After you have carefully listed your expectations, share it with your bridesmaids. Let them know that you love them dearly and hope this list will prevent any confusion or conflict before and after the wedding. Starting communicating early, this will help prevent any unwelcome surprises and keep friendships intact.
4. Be respectful. These women were there for you before you met Mr. Wonderful, and they will be there long after the tan from your honeymoon fades. Make sure they know how much you care for them throughout the wedding planning process. Every once-in-a-while spend some quality time with the girls, talking about anything but the wedding, it will be well received!
Stay Tuned for Part II
